Masters LVRT Ride

The MNC Masters are out in force this season following up their  Thursday roller skiing session with a fun group ride on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail.   The weather was fantastic and the winds were mostly favorable.  At the start riders split into groups but reconvened for some food and beverage at Lost Nation in order to fortify themselves for the 15 mile journey back.

Next week the group will be back to the dirt roads, so make sure to catch up with the latest on the Masters Training Doc  and join the #sunday-cycling Slack group.

Lamoille Rail Trail Group Ride 6/9

All MNC members and friends are welcome to join us for a fun group ride on the Lamoille Rail Trail.  This packed gravel trail runs on flat terrain for roughly 15 miles from the  Cambridge Trailhead to Morrisville.  There are several locations along the route for people to start for a shorter route or add detours to make it longer.

The plan is to meet at the Cambridge Trail Head at 9:30 AM.  Groups will be formed and hopefully converge for lunch and beverages at Lost Nation around 11;30.

To stay up to date with any last minute plans please join the #sunday-cycle group on our new Slack workspace.

Roller Ski Intro Clinics lead by Coach Andy

Andy is a fantastic intro coach this is a great opportunity for those people new to roller skiing. So if you just want to try it our, or start yourself on the path of four season ski training, these session are for you.  Don’t miss out! If you can’t make all eight weeks just email info@mansfieldnordic.org for partial session options.

Intensity and Technique Sessions with Coach Liam and Rick

These weekly training sessions alternate between dryland (running, ski-walking, bounding, plyometrics, etc) and rollerskiing. Workouts will take place at various locations along the Burlington to Richmond I-89 corridor. This is a good opportunity for athletes who are comfortable rollerskiing on open roads and want technique feedback, and/or those interested in on-foot interval training.

Weekend Special Events (aka Onyx Sessions)

Onyx training sessions are for MNC athletes who are interested in the insane, muddy and bloody, type II (ie why am I doing this?) fun sort of workouts.

Welcome to the Catamount Community Forest

In the coming weeks, MNC Masters will be transitioning to our Summer training which includes a  Thursday evening running group that will meet at the Catamount Community Forest.  While wait for the trails to dry out, we wanted to make our members were aware of the big changes happening in Williston.

So in case you haven’t heard.

The town of Williston recently bought Catamount Outdoor Family Center for public use. Catamount Outdoor Family Center will still operate on the property, managing customer service,  programming and trail maintenance.

With this transition Pedestrian use (walking, running and snowshoeing) is now free when the trails are open and  mountain bike memberships have never been lower.  Also both the Tues Night Trail Series  and Wed Night Mountain Bike Series  have undergone rate reductions.

The trails are presently closed to traffic and are drying out. They hope to re-open at the end of April, weather permitting.

Below is a clip from NBC News, which covered the details of the transaction last week.

Zak and Club Cup Results

MNC’s racing ladies Katie, Ellie and Karen

A big thanks and congrats to all the many MNC Masters racers competing in the NENSA Zak and Club Cup events this season.   With outstanding participation from our club and the help of our Masters Race leader Karen Alence,  MNC placed second (last correction by NENSA) in overall Club Cup Standings standings, missing second place by a mere 50 points and within striking distance to the top of the podium.

In the individual Zak Cup competition MNC racers also shined especially in the Women’s categories with Katie Hill #2 M4,  Ellie Bouffard #3 M5, and Joanne Hanowski #2 for M7.

In the Men’s competition Mike (aka Mic Drop) Miller captured the #1 place for the M1 age group.  Mike put in a ton of hard work this past year, but also had a lot of fun and helped a lot of other skiers progress.  Like so many other Masters in our club, Mike is a great example of how building community, friendship, giving back and just plain old love for skiing pays off  It’s also worth noting as of a couple years ago he never even skied! Boom!

Hope to see more you out there.  2nd place is just a few race entires away!
