BKL Mini-Marathon

Ansel and Bella stop to refuel at the snack table, while Sam counts their laps.

How many kilometers can you ski in 75 minutes?  That was the challenge set for all BKL kids on Tuesday in our 2022 BKL Mini-marathon! All these BKL kids skied impressive amounts of k’s with an amazing amount of kids going over 10 k and some hitting 16 and 17 k! It certainly helped that the snow was fast and groomed perfectly- thank you Range groomers!

Congratulations to all these BKL kids! Thanks to all the parents who brought snacks for the snack table and a huge thanks goes out to parents Amanda Repp and Sam Cross who stood out in the cold the entire time and helped the kids record their laps!

Astrid heads out for another lap.

Pearl ready for more k’s.

Amanda checks in and gets those skiers’ laps counted!

BKL Olympic Games!

Hanna and the gold medal Olympic Penguins!

Penguins skied in a BKL Penguin Olympics last Tuesday and the older BKL kids participated in their own BKL Olympics on Thursday!  Kids were put onto teams from Canada, Mexico, Argentina, India, Peru, Jamaica, Tanzania and Morocco. Friendly competition began with teams competing in downhill slalom, handball hockey, tennis ball biathlon and the cone shuttle relay. Penguins did some bobsled, slalom and various relays and then were awarded handmade medals! So much fun to be an Olympian for a day!

Two tries to get a ball in the bucket in Tennis Ball Biathlon!

*Practice at the Range resumes on Tuesday, March 1st.

Practice this week:

Tuesday 2/15: Penguins Classic, Everyone else Skate

Penguins will do a special Valentine’s Day themed activity!

Jack Rabbits, Arctic Foxes & Racers:  It’s time for the Mini-marathon! How many k’s can you ski during our practice?  We will be skiing, skiing, skiing with stops only for water and a snack!  We will warm up and get organized from 3:45 to 4 and start all together at 4 pm.

  • I need a couple of parents dressed warmly to help with the lap counting and snack table! Please email me (sheacobb19@gmail.com) if you can help!
  • Each child should bring a water bottle LABELLED  with their name so they can get a drink when they need to. They can put it in the snow by the card table and fence.
  • We open up a snack table about half way through the marathon.  This year, I’d like to limit it to pre-packaged granola or sports bars so that we don’t share germs. It would be great if some parents would donate some boxes of bars for the snack table. Thanks!

Thursday 2/17: Classic

Right now the weather is forecasted to be 50 degrees F and raining. The Range sometimes closes on days like this, so be sure to check the website before you leave!  If we ski, wear a raincoat and if you have waxable skis, get ready to put on some klister!

  • We need some parents to help with Jack Rabbits 2- Peter Vile’s group- today. Email Rosemary (sheacobb19@gmail.com) if you can help!

Register for the BKL Fest!

The New England BKL Fest is coming up on March 6 & 7 in Waterville, ME. If you have not registered yet, it is time to do so!  If you don’t have lodging, get lodging first to be sure you have a place. You should get a place for Friday and Saturday night. MNC will plan to meet on Friday at 3 pm at the Venue to ski the course. We will not do our traditional team dinner due to COVID precautions, but we will plan to do potluck lunches outside for Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday’s festival dinner will be a take-out. Saturday is the classic relay (I will make the relay teams, you do not need to find your own partner) and Sunday is the skate individual.

Nordic Adventure:  If your child is not interested in competing, they can sign up for the Nordic Adventure only. There are lots of on-ski activities to do beyond the races! It’s a ski festival!

Coach Rosemary and a number of other MNC coaches will be going to help wax skis, lead course previews, keep us well organized and lead the MNC charge!

Information & Registration including Lodging Info

Special note for grades 1-2: **The youngest skiers (grade 2 and under) can sign up as Lollipop participants or if they are in 1st or 2nd grade and wish to participate in the 1k race and the relay race, they can sign up for the Grade 1&2 Race Category.**
