BKLers- Check your Poles!

Someone went home with Dylan Torrizo’s skate poles on Thursday night, so please check your poles. The poles are SWIX, black and red and Dylan’s name  is written under the grips.  He found a very similar pair left at the Range- black with orange, but there is no name on them.

If you find you have Dylan’s poles, the poles he found must be yours. Please email his mom, Margie at margaret@watershedca.com so that you can make a switch.

First BKL Race: Stowe Cross-Cut Classic!

And they’re off:  Virginia, Noah, Elsa, Matias, Astrid and Ripley at the start.

It was a blustery, snowy day at Stowe Mountain Resort Cross-Country Center, but not too cold for racing!  Six MNC Racers came to ski the Stowe Cross-Cut Classic. It was a mass start with everyone going at once and skiing the same course- a short 2km featuring a couple of steep climbs and a fun bomber downhill. MNC skiers led the way out, about, and to the finish line, where everyone was treated to chocolates from Laughing Moon. After a little lunch, we went back out for a warm down ski through the woods and along a bubbling brook. It is so much fun to explore new trails!  A fun day and a great start to the race season. Great work to all the skiers- you all skied well, especially on that difficult uphill! Thanks to Nadya Bech-Conger for helping me wax!

BKL Practice Week of 1/06/20-1/12/2020

Classic Week!

We are going to take advantage of cold temps and fresh powder this week and go classic all week! The Range has good snow on their snowmaking loops and with the bits of fresh powder we’ve been getting, we may be able to ski on some of the other trails as well.

Tuesday 1/07: Everyone Classic

We will work on refining our classic kicking and gliding with games, drills and thrills!

Thursday 1/09: Jack Rabbits, Arctic Foxes, Racers: Classic

We will build on what we did on Tuesday and also focus on downhill techniques.

Saturday 1/11: Racers & anyone who wants to race: Bogburn Classic BKL, Pomfret, VT

Get the info on the race here: Bogburn BKL Calendar Listing

Pre-register by 5 pm on Friday to avoid the late fee:  http://www.mansfieldnordic.org/event/bogburn-bkl-classic/

Latest info:  Bogburn Facebook Page

Email Rosemary if you are going: sheacobb19@gmail.com

The forecast right now is for warm temps and possibly snow or rain. This means a klister classic with great kick!

If they think they will get too much rain and need to cancel, we will do a practice, possibly involving a time trial.

Wax Recommendation:  1) Clean your kick zone (we’ll be using klister)

2) Hot wax tips and tails with a non-fluro wax: TOKO yellow or Swix CH 8 & 10 mixed 1:3.

Update 1/09:  The latest is that the race is on! Rain is supposed to come later in the day. They may adjust times accordingly. They also got 3-4″ of fresh powder last night. They have also secured a back-up race site which is Woodstock Nordic Center. The race will happen one way or another.  Be sure to register and let Rosemary know you are coming.

BKL Goes to Metro Rocks!

What do you do when you are a BKL skier, the snow disappears and it’s raining outside? You go climbing at Metrorocks! A big gang of MNC BKLers descended upon Metrorocks last Tuesday for a fun afternoon of challenges. We climbed, we walked the slack line, we bouldered, and tried the pull-up bar. We also got to know each other a little better and had a great time doing it! Thanks to all the coaches who helped to belay and supervise.
