BKL Time Trial!

Racers Virginia, Anna, Carly, Julia, Niko, Taylor, Carl, Gretta and Kate met at Craftsbury for practice and an informal Time Trial on Saturday. This is a great thing to do before the actual races begin.  We practiced warming up for a race and then chose technique goals to work on while racing. We all learned a few things and it was good to get the “kinks out” and get used to what it feels like to go really fast on a course. Great job to all these BKL Racers!

We will meet at Rikert Touring Center in Ripton from 10 to 11:30 am. There is a High School & Middle School race happening. Most MS Racers will be racing and the rest of us will do a ski practice and then watch and cheer on those racing if there is time. Meet me at 10 AM outside the Touring Center. The parking lot close to the Touring Center will probably be full, so parents may want to drop off kids and equipment by the Touring Center before parking in the overflow lot across the road. Kids will need to buy their own trail pass. I will email if plans or times change.

NE BKL Festival: Lots of Fun for Kids!

The New England Bill Koch League Festival is the highlight of the winter for many of our BKL program kids.  This year’s Festival will be held at Rikert Nordic Center in Ripton, VT on March 2-3. Registration is now open!  Festival lodging gets booked quickly, so if you are considering going, you should book your lodging now. You can find info on lodging and other things on the Festival Website. NENSA will be adding more information to the Festival Website as we get closer to the date.

So, “Take a Glide on the Wild Side” and get ready for two fun-filled days of races, activities on skis and hanging with your ski buddies on the beautiful trails at Rikert Touring Center.  If you have any questions about the Festival that aren’t answered on the Festival Website or registration page, please email Coach Rosemary.

Label Your Equipment!

Every year someone goes home with somebody else’s poles or even skis!  It is a very good idea to  LABEL ALL EQUIPMENT with your name!  Here are some great labelling ideas:

-Use permanent marker or a white paint marker if equipment is black.

-Label makers are great. So are address labels covered with a piece of clear packaging tape!

-If your equipment is rented, apply a piece of painter’s tape and write on that.

-If you have multiple kids, use a different color duct tape for each kid so it’s easy to recognize whose is whose.

-Label skate equipment with “SKATE” and classic equipment with “CLASSIC” so it’s easy to tell which is which.

Thank you!
