Range Closed: BKL Practice Change for 1/11 & 1/12

The Range is going to be closed Thursday and Friday due to warm temperatures because they want to maintain the snow. So, a change of plans…

Thursday 1/11: We will practice at Catamount Family Center in Williston.  Trail fee will be the awesome special group rate of $5. Please pay inside the Touring Center for your children. SKATE technique.

Friday Foxes 1/12:  Meet Amy at Mills River Park for a backcountry tour. Most likely it will be raining, so wear a raincoat over your ski clothes. We’ll keep moving and explore some trails and then end a little early before it gets dark. Note: Practice on 1/19 will also be at Mills River Park due to a race happening at the Range.

3-Day Skiers: Sunday, 9:30 at Rikert Touring Center, Ripton. Skate skis. Coach Rosemary needs to take her son to a biathlon race in Canada, so you will meet Coach Tom at 9:30 outside the Rikert Touring Center. You will watch the U-16 girls race, then go for a skate ski with Tom. You will be done by 11:30.

First BKL Race: Stowe Nordic Cross-cut Classic!

MNC BKL racers turned out in full-force at the Stowe Nordic Cross-Cut Classic!  Esther, Niko, Carl, Kate, Taylor, Cole, Carly, Virginia, Julia, Greta, Crosby and Lily all braved the cold temps to ski a quick, up and down, 2 km classic course.

Cold temps? These kids know how to bundle up for racing! When you’re only skiing 2km, you’ve got to be warm.  Check out the buffs, the face patches, the parkas and wind shirts in the pictures below.

Everyone skied well and were rewarded at the end with beautiful, handmade, candy canes. Way to go guys! I am so proud of you all for braving the cold temps and coming out to race!

Crosby peers out between hat and buff at the finish.

Hat, buff & wind jacket did not slow down this dude!

Julia making a fashion statement in the pink insulated vest.

Greta was not parting with her warm-ups today!

Esther leading the pack.

Lily wisely left the parka on!

Virginia sporting her anti-frostbite patches.

Taylor striding through the cold.

Kate, all tucked into a buff!

Carly, focussing on the finish!

Cole, determined and tough!

There will be lots of fun non-racing things to do as well, including a parade, orienteering, Snowdance Celebration, Snow Sculptures, Tandem Skiing, Face Painting, Ski Biathlon, the Eighth Grade graduation and of course, the lollipop race.  Saturday night dinner buffet tickets are available for purchase, and Festival hats, headbands, and buffs are for sale too.
