BKL Training Week of 12/18
2 & 3 day skiers:
We are hoping to have some Guest Coaches join us this week!
Tuesday 12/19: Skate Technique.
Thursday 12/21: Classic Technique & Hot Cocoa & Snack Day!
- Look for the wax benches and send your kids with skis there to get waxed. Any parents who can, please help the kids get waxed! It helps to get to the Range EARLY!
- EVERYONE bring water jugs/bottles if you can to contribute to the Hot Cocoa (Water at the Range is not potable). I will bring herb tea as an option.
- Bring a snack to share- cookies, gorp, fruit, gluten free snacks are great – we have a couple of gluten free kids and at least one nut allergy so please label any baked goods accordingly. Parents with allergic kids should monitor their kids’ snacks.
- If you can help with putting out the snacks and making the hot cocoa, please e-mail Rosemary at sheacobb19@gmail.com
Saturday (3-day skiers): No practice this weekend. Ski on your own if you can!
Friday Foxes
More fun at the Range!
People who picked up rentals: Please label your equipment by applying a piece of painter’s (preferable) or masking tape to each ski, boot and pole and writing your child’s name on it. About ten of the kids have identical equipment!
NENSA SWIX Apparel Store Now Open!
BKL Training Week of 12/11
Snow Leopards, Jackrabbits (2-3 Day) & Penguins
There is snow in the forecast! Check out the National Weather Service Forecast for Jericho. We are hoping to get on snow this week!
Tuesday: It’s supposed to snow much of the day. Travel could be unsafe. We will have coaches at the Range unless we post otherwise, so check the website before you leave to be sure nothing has changed! Regardless, it is always up to you to decide whether or not travel from your area to the Range is safe enough for you to make the trip.
We will plan to ski, SKATE technique (Penguins: classic). Bring Skate equipment, but also bring running shoes, just in case! If you have old skis or “rock” skis, you might want to bring those.
Thursday: Definite plan is to ski, SKATE technique! It will be cold, so bundle your kids. We need some parents to stay inside and help & monitor kids that coaches send in to warm up. Please e-mail me at sheacobb19@gmail.com if you can help out!
Saturday: Classic technique, long easy distance ski at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. They got over a foot of snow! Should be great! Meet at 9:30 to get waxed and ready, on snow by 10:00.
Friday Foxes
Thanks to all the parents who turned out for our meeting this past Friday!
Friday Dec. 15- Those who haven’t picked up their rentals should come. We will size the kids and you can take home your rental gear.
Range has snow! Friday Foxes will ski on Friday, Dec. 15th!!
Rosemary’s BKL Wax Recommendations
If you are wondering what wax you should have on hand for your BKLer, here is my list in order of priority. These are all Toko Products. See TOKO TEAM ORDERS for info on ordering. Orders due Dec. 7 (special extension for BKL).
For Base Cleaning: (to take off klister): Waxremover (250ml is plenty)
Grip Waxes: (for waxable classic skis)
Nordic Grip Wax: Red, Yellow, then Blue. Base Green.
Base Preparation:
Natural Wax Cork (for rubbing in the kick wax)
NF or LF Hot Waxes (for skate skis & tips & tails of classic skis): 40 gr. will probably last you a season. NF is no fluro and LF is low fluro. Both these are fine for BKL. LF are faster waxes, especially in humid conditions and if your child is going to race a lot, you may want to get the LF.
Start with Red. If you can get more, get Blue, then Yellow.
*You may use MNC’s wax iron, benches and scrapers at the Range to wax during or after practices. Check in with Adam or Rosemary.
