Craftsbury Day 2/24, 10-Noon, SKATE technique

We will all meet and go for a long ski on the beautiful trails at Craftsbury. Parents are invited to ski with us. We will split into groups once we get there.

To ski at Craftsbury, you need 2 things: a pass, and a reservation.

1)RESERVATIONS

Choose “Trail Access- COC Campus”
Make a two hour appointment from 10-2 (or more if you like)
You need a reservation for each person skiing

BKL Practices 2/16-2/21

Tuesday 2/16: Classic for Everyone

Big snowstorm forecasted for today, and chances are that the groomers will not be able to keep up with the snowfall, so we will classic. However, I may cancel practice if the roads are not safe for coaches and others to travel. As usual, I will post any cancellations here by 1 PM on Tuesday.

Thursday 2/18: Skate

For Racers: There is a Virtual Race for Snow Event going on through Feb. 20th. For BKL, it’s a 1 km race and it only costs $5 on SKIREG. The event is a fundraiser for 350.org- an organization that works to combat climate change. Register HERE.

On Thursday, I will time anyone (maybe everyone) that wants to do the Virtual Race for Snow on our 1 km Picnic loop, so you can get a time and submit it for the race. Wear your race suit!

NEXT WEEK: No Tues/Thurs. practice (Vacation week)

Bolton will be open, so feel free to go up and ski!

Instead: Craftsbury Day 2/24

Crafts bury has awesome trails and a fun terrain park. This year, we will meet at 10 AM and ski until Noon and we will SKATE. We’ll do some fun agility around the terrain park and then go for a tour. Bring your lunch, eat in your car after and either head for home or take another ski with your kids in the afternoon. This is open to all MNC skiers. We usually have enough parents and coaches that we can break into different ability groups for the tour, so parents should plan to ski with us. To take part in this event, please sign-up (so I know you are coming), Reserve ski time at Craftsbury, and either buy a ticket or use your season’s pass.

BKL Practice 2/09-2/14

It’s getting close to Valentine’s Day and we have a surprise activity for everyone. We’ll round it out with some fun touring today.

Update: Weekend Racers: Sunday Backcountry Ski

1:30 -3pm, Sunday 2/14

Meet: Honey Hollow Trailhead Parking on the Duxbury Rd.

Because the race was postponed due to cold weather, we will have a weekend practice instead. It will b a fun backcountry ski out and back on the Honey Hollow Trail.

Equipment: If you have a pair of no-wax touring or backcountry skis, bring those. If not, just bring your classic skis (classic rock skis if you have them). This trail is not a difficult back country trail. Parents are welcome to come!

BKL Practice 2/2-2/07: Update 2/02 CANCELLED

Tuesday 2/02/21: CANCELLED

With bad driving conditions today and most schools cancelled, we want everyone to stay home & safe. It’s a good day to explore your backyard or neighborhood on skis! Note the technique change for Thursday.

Thursday 2/04/21: CLASSIC

Conditions will be soft after the Tuesday/Wed. storm so we will Classic instead of Skate. It’s going to be a great day for a tour! Temps should be similar to Tuesday.

Weekend Racers: Saturday at Sleepy Hollow

Time: Meet at 9:30 am

Technique: SKATE

Sleepy Hollow Passes & Trail Sign-In

Coach Charlie will lead the group this week while Coach Rosemary helps the Juniors at their VT Cup Races. He’ll work with kids on some agility and take them on some trails with really fun downhills.

PUT ON YOUR CALENDAR: Evening of Friday Feb. 12: MNC BKL Sweetheart Sprints! I’ve invited the Frost Mt. Club and we’ll have a sprint race under the lights on Picnic! See the details in the calendar listing.

*Parents: I need a number of volunteers and a couple of cookie bakers. Registration & Volunteer Sign-up is HERE (see tabs at bottom). As per VT COVID Rules, there are no spectators allowed, so volunteer instead!

BKL Racer Update: Race at Craftsbury 1/31

Crafts bury has just decided to hold a BKL race on Sunday 1/31. More details will be forthcoming, but these are the main points:

Starting at 1pm with youngest first; older kids going later; should be wrapping up around 3pm
CLASSIC (had initially said skate, but gotta take advantage of these perfect classic conditions)
Pretty standard BKL distances (lollipop does a quick rip; grades 1/2 do 1-2k; grades 3/4 do 2-3k; grades 5/6 do 3-4k; grades 7/8 do 4-5k)
Individual starts (1 racer every 30 seconds) to keep kids spaced out
Pre-registration will be REQUIRED to comply with a bunch of COVID regulations and will close Saturday evening—no day-of-race registration, unfortunately.
There will be an additional health screen form to fill out, too
Spectators are unfortunately not allowed per state rules, so please set parents’ expectations accordingly. Parents of children 10 and under are allowed to get them going but then need to make themselves scarce. Coaches can help out as much as needed.
Entry fee = $0.

**Instead of our Sprint skate time trial practice, we will do this race!
