Be ready for anything, because it’s ski practice by democracy! Majority rules!

Thursday 3/7/19, Classic Tour Day!

This will be one of our last Classic days, so we will celebrate with a long tour.

Weekend Race Opportunities:

There is a BKL division for this race. 4 person teams each ski 5 km, 2 go classic and 2 go skate. Get your team together and split the cost. Registration & more info on Ski Reg. Coach Rosemary will be racing this one and can help with BKL skier’s wax. (Let me know you are coming!)

BKL Vacation Week Schedule 2/25-3/04

2/26 Tuesday: Practice at the Range 3:45-5:15

Classic for Penguins, Skate for everyone else.

2/27 Wednesday: Craftsbury Day!

Bring both sets of skis and bring lunch.  We will Classic first. Meet at 10:30 in the wax room (below the fitness center) to get waxed up. We will take advantage of Craftsbury’s awesome tracks for a tour. After lunch, we’ll put on our skate skis, have some fun on the hills and maybe play a few games.

2/28 Thursday:  No Official Practice but Range Open for Skiing, regular time.

BKL Coaches are off today. Kids may come and ski with their parents or another responsible adult. Coach Adam will be around working with the Juniors.

March 2 & 3: BKL Festival at Rikert

Registration closes 2/22 at 5 pm. See the Event listing for details.

BKL Practice 2/19-2/23/19: Updated!

Tuesday 2/19: Classic Mini-Marathon

How far can you ski in one hour? Get waxed up quickly and get out there because after a quick warm-up, we will all start together. We will use the 1,2 & 3 km loops and kids will keep track of their laps on our lap counting clipboards. After about a half hour, we will open up the snack table so kids get some refueling.

Wax: High of 16F, so you can wax at home the night before with a SWIX Blue or V30, or TOKO Red. An Oslo wax might also be great today if you have that. *If you can, iron in a binder or use a spray binder!!

We need: 1) PARENTS  (2-3) to help kids mark down their laps and to monitor the snack table. Email Rosemary if you can help.

2) A Card Table (Email Rosemary if you can bring one)

3) SNACKS: Fruit, trail mix, crackers, cookies are all good.  Everyone bring something.

4) WATERBOTTLES: This year, everyone should bring their own water. Leave labelled water bottles at the snack table or  carry them if kids have a water bottle holder.

Thursday 2/21: Practice at BOLTON XC CENTER

With Mixed precipitation changing to rain, we think they may close the Range this day and we are just going ahead with a different location: Bolton Valley XC Center. Passes will be $6 and we will start at 4:00 to give everyone a little more time to get there.

Jack Rabbits & Arctic Foxes: CLASSIC NO-WAX

You will all do some back-country skiing & the best skis for that are classic no-wax. We will bring extras for NNN style boots.

Racers: SKATE

We will explore the trails, practice some on some fun tricky downhills and also practice relay tags for the Festival goers.

Juniors will be at Bolton too.

Saturday: Racers: Backcountry at Bolton!

Middle School racing is over and let’s celebrate with a fun back-country day at Bolton!

Meet at 10 AM at Bolton XC Touring Center. Buy a trail pass.

Bring no-wax classic skis. If you don’t have any, borrow some or email Rosemary, we might be able to find you some.

We will ski until about 11:30.

Email Rosemary if you are going!  sheacobb19@gmail.com

BKL Practice 2/12-2/17

Congratulations to all those kids that raced this weekend in our MNC Skiathlon! It was awesome watching you all ski! Check out the BKL Blog for a recap and pictures coming soon!

Klister:  It’s time to take it off!

We’ll be switching back to hardwax by the next time we classic which will be on Thursday. Here’s a tutorial on how to clean the klister off skis:https://youtu.be/DicChDocWWY

Tuesday:  Skate (Penguins: Classic)

A big snow storm is supposed to start late this afternoon and continue into Wednesday. Check the weather before you come to determine if you will be OK driving to & from your home and of course, check the MNC website. At this point, the storm isn’t supposed to really get going until later in the evening so I don’t foresee that we will need to cancel.

VIDEO DAY: Vince Franke is a videographer form Peregrine Productions and has kids in our program. He has volunteered to make a Video of our BKL program for me and is going to be videoing our BKL skiers and probably interviewing some of them. We plan to post this video on our website. If any parent would like us NOT to film their child and post it online, please email Rosemary: sheacobb19@gmail.com

We’ll be playing lots of games, practicing tucking on the downhills and racers will be practicing how to pass skiers.

Coming up: Tuesday 2/19- Our Annual Mini-Marathon! We will need everyone to bring snacks (to share) and a couple of parent volunteers to man the food table and lap counting sheets. E-mail Rosemary if you can help that day:  sheacobb19@gmail.com  More about the Mini-marathon next week!

Thursday: Classic Relay Day!

With a high of 31F predicted, we will probably be waxing with Swix purple or a mix of Toko Red & yellow.

Sunday: Racers: Ski/Cheer Intervals at Rikert

Middle school racers have a championship race on Saturday, so we’re going to have practice on Sunday down at the Rikert Touring Center where the Eastern Cup races are happening and I will be helping Adam wax for the Juniors. Tentative plan is to meet at 12:00 and watch the start of the Open Men’s 15 km race, then ski out to watch and & cheer and go for a ski. I will email later in the week to confirm plans.
