BKL Mini-Marathon Re-cap

With all the fresh snow and perfect temps, Tuesday was a great day for the Classic BKL Mini-marathon. “How far can you ski in an hour?” was the question of the day and these BKLers proved that they can put in a lot of k’s!  It’s impressive that kids 12 and under can go out and ski this much. We coaches skied a lap with some of them here and there, but the kids were mostly skiing on their own!  We had 34 kids ski the marathon and 12 of them skied 10km or more. Virginia Cobb skied a whopping 16km with Jordon Shullenberger coming in close behind at 15 km. Wow!  Great job to ALL the kids!

A big thanks to Beth Dezon-Gaillard who served as Head Lap Counter  and snack monitor. Thanks also to Marcia Waite who also helped with snacks and clean-up. If you see either of these ladies, be sure to thank them!

Friday Fox Update 2/10 – Practice at Range

What a great ski last week at UCS!! So glad to see everyone enjoying the amazing snow and incredible views on our trek to Casey’s Hill.  Also, we had a great Friday Fox crew join us at the Range Ramble on Sat and get a fun race under their belts. Congrats to all of that crew!

Tomorrow, unfortunately mother nature has thrown us another curve ball, and we are dealing with powder covered ice and very cold temps.  We will meet at the range tomorrow at 3:45, as the snow conditions will be much safer there, and we will end early at 4:45.  It will be very cold and a bit windy tomorrow (possible projection of -5 wind chill)!  Please wear face masks and warm mittens!!  The building is supposed to be open tomorrow so weshould have a warming space.

Please do not dbl park or park anywhere near the rd on the upper, trailside parking lot.  We did get some frustrated feedback from range personnel at our last range practice. The lower parking lot is to be used instead, you can walk through the tunnel to get to the building.

Thanks again for all the help parents. See you tomorrow.

BKL Practice 2/07-2/12

Tues/Thurs BKL Groups

Tuesday:  Classic. We may have set tracks!

Thursday: Skate. Game Day! We’ll do some warm up and then play “Stones”!

3-Day Skiers:
Practice at Craftsbury, 9:30-11 AM, Classic. The Eastern Cup is scheduled to begin at 11 AM, so we will get our training in early.

Saturday Race: Silver Fox Trot

Right now, the conditions at Garipay Field are fine for the race. However, the race organizers are worried about Wednesday’s rain and  have planned a back-up venue at Strafford Nordic Center. They should know by Wednesday night and online registration is open until Thursday evening. Rosemary will not be able to coach at this race.

Friday Foxes

Assuming conditions hold, practice this week will be 3:45 at Under Hill Central School.  Watch your e-mail and the blog after in case this weeks weather doesn’t turn out as forecast.  Contact Eden (eden_shullenberg@hotmail.com) with questions.
