Skiing March 17 and 19

The fun isn’t over yet! Winter is still here and we will ski this week. Congrats to all the kids that skied at the Grand Prix  http://barttiming.com/XCski/fmnc2015.htm and at Cochran’s Nordic Cross.

Masters

Choice of Technique again this week.

  • The forecast is all over the place this week but I will bring some spray-on klister if anyone would like to classic ski.
  • On Thursday the masters workout will be the Nordic Sprints (see flyer below) but you are welcome to just ski.
  • On Sunday Craftsbury is hosting a 30 km Spring Fling https://www.nensa.net/calendar/index.php?id=1715.  This one will be fun.

BK

We have received an email from Coach Marge that the NYSEF Nordic Kids Festival WILL NOT take place this year.  Too bad.  It’s always a fun event. However….

Tuesday – Ski with the UVM Nordic Team.  Bring skate skis and join in on the fun skiing with some of the best NCAA skiers and coaches.

Thursday – Bring skate skis and stay late if you can try the Nordic Sprints – that will be hosted by the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club.

Nordic Sprints

BK and Masters: March 9-15 UPDATED 3/9/15

We will be playing lots of ski games this week so bring some old beater skis if you have them.  We still need a parent or two to pick up the Pizzas  on TH while the kids are skiing and we’d like to get them from the Underhill General Store which is owned and operated by MNC skier and guest coach Peter Davis. Please contact Rick at 370-5686 if you can pick up the Pizzas. Thanks.

NWVT and MNC have multiple podium finishes at the 2015 BK Festival. Results are posted on the NENSA website at https://www.nensa.net/ and some pics at http://www.bigshotphotovt.com.  Parents with pics can send us a link to wherever you post them or send your best shots to us so MNC can post them. Thanks to all the families that participated in this wonderful event and making it a tremendous success as well as a darn-good time! MNC Kids are the BEST!!!

This week – (Masters info posted below)

BK will skate both Tuesday and Thursday. Partially because it’s going to get warm and it may take me a few days to reorganize the wax kit after the weekend. On Thursday we will celebrate our “official” last day of ski practice with a pizza party in the Walker Building after skiing. We say unofficial because we will continue to ski to the end of the month if possible but we know that soon the spring sports at school will stat up and kids won’t be able to make it on T/TH. Don’t forget about the end of the year MNC ski party at Craftsbury on March 29th.  Details will be in the MNC Weekly Email.

  • Please let email Coach Rick if you will be there on TH so we know how much pizza to order
  • Bring $2/kid to help pay for the pizza
  • Pizza’s will be ordered and (pre-paid)from Mtn High Pizza in Jericho and we need a parent to pick them up while the kids are skiing.  Please contact Rick if you can make the pizza run.  If you can bring something for the kids to drink that would be great too.

This weekend OPTIONS:

BK ages 10-14 Grand Prix at Rikert https://www.nensa.net/calendar/index.php?id=1706  OR
for all ages Cochran’s Nordic Cross http://www.cochranskiarea.com/events-programs/events/60-cochran-s-nordic-x-challenge
Please email Coach Rick if you are going to either of these so we can determine which (or both) we can offer coaching support.

Looking Ahead – NYSEF Nordic Kids Festival in Lake Placid -March 21-22.  More info will be posted but check your calendar.  This is a fun low key event for kids held at the Ski Jumps.

Masters

Pick Your technique Week! As we near the end of the season we will back-off a little on how much technique coaching we have been doing and enjoy some social ski time along with an interval workout for those that want to join in.

Thursday – Something different – Masters Time Trial! We will pick a short course (around 3 km) and you ski it for time.  We can post times or if you bribe the coaches we will keep it a secret.

Weekend – for those of you that feel like bringing out your inner kid….. head to Cochrans for the Nordic Cross Race. Be prepared to have fun, fall and absolutely not be serious!

BK and Masters March 2-8

Tuesday  3/3 classic skiing.

PENGUINS WILL BE ON THURSDAY THIS WEEK INSTEAD OF TUESDAY

BK: Meet inside to get your skis waxed – most of the kids are getting quite good at doing this themselves now but parent helpers are welcome and encouraged. BK will be focusing on some final prep for the BK Festival!  BK Racing Team: Start off with two laps of the short loop – NO POLES.

Masters: We will follow up on tempo changes that we did a couple of weeks ago and work on terrain based transitions along with just getting in some good skiing

Thursday 3/5 Skate Skiing

BK: Easy fun day with some games.  We want you to feel rested and fired up for the Festival.

Masters: Relays – please signup for inside the Walker Building when you arrive.  Random  3-person teams (one from each group) for a fun and completely NOT serious relay.

Highland Lodge – on for Sunday 3/1!

The Highland Lodge trip is a go for Sunday (tomorrow)! The shuttle leaves Craftsbury at 9:30am – the Center asks that we’re ready to go at 9:15. We have a count of about 12 so far. If you haven’t contacted Rick or Anna but want to go, please let one of them know to ensure there’s room in the shuttle: anna.r.schulz@gmail.com or rtcostanza@gmail.com.

Highland Lodge ski this weekend

We’re hoping to get together a crew to ski from Highland Lodge to Craftsbury this weekend, most likely on Sunday (3/1). For those of you who haven’t done it, it’s a great ski. A Craftsbury van shuttles you out to Highland Lodge in Greensboro and then you ski back. The shorter route is a bit under 20k, the longer route is 25k+, but of course you can make it even longer than that if you choose! It’s not supposed to be super cold, which would be nice. If you’re interested in joining, please email Anna (anna.r.schulz@gmail.com) and let her know (also let her know if you have strong feelings about going tomorrow over Sunday). Families, etc., are of course welcome. We need to get a sense of numbers so we can make sure the Center has enough transportation for us. Anna will get the interested crew in touch with each other to arrange possible carpools. Thanks!
