Pictures from the past Week

Below are a bunch of photos from the past week of training. Last Saturday we had approx 8-9 athletes join me and coach Paul Allison in the Essex Invitation Citizens’ Race. Later that day, a boatload of our MNC athletes competed in the official high school races, as well. On Tuesday we went back to the UVM Research Forest and did another bounding workout. It was dark and gloomy so the pictures turned out bad. And yesterday we were back at the Range doing a long speed session. Everyone completed approx 20 repeats of 15-30 seconds (dependent on age and their training/racing schedule).

Thanks to Paul Massey-Biermann and Don Harmeyer for taking photos while I raced last Saturday.

MNC Girls at Fast and Female

On what turned out to be a beautiful day, Eleven currant and former MNC girls participated in the Fast & Female events in Lake Placid last Sunday.  A  small group also arrived early with Andy and Rick for a hike up Cascade Mtn before heading to the Olympic Training Center.

Parents and a couple of MNC coaches were treated to a presentation by US Ski Team coach Matt Whitcom while the girls were cranking up the ZUMBA with some of the top female skiers in the USA.

MNC Athletes, Coaches Excel in Local Races

The summer wrapped up with a few major events including the Race to the Top of Vermont (run/cycle up the Mansfield Toll Road) and the Green Mountain Stage Race (one of the biggest multi-stage bike races in the Northeastern United States). Since skiers are notoriously some of the most fit endurance athletes, it is natural to see that MNC athletes and coaches posted some amazing results in both of these events.

And this past weekend marked the beginning of the XC Running season with the Essex Invitational. Dozens of MNC athletes participated and some ran incredibly fast times (especially considering many of these athletes identify themselves as skiers that run to get in shape for the winter!).

Check out the pictures below, and beneath that a partial list of “Skier Sightings” in recent local events!
