Wax tip: Silver Fox Trot

Note the date of this race has changed from Saturday (1/15) to Sunday (1/16). You can register for the race here.

Times vary from BKL races in the morning to the open/citizen races after noon.

Temps will be very cold the day prior, with abrasive manmade snow. To prepare for this, put at least two cold layers of wax (Swix CH4, Toko Blue, or other similar cold, hard glide wax) into your skis to harden the base. If you have a cold, hard graphite wax, apply this layer first (scraping and brushing before subsequent layers).

If you have Toko X-Cold powder or Swix CH3 powder, these are good options to put on the skis as a final layer. The preferred method here is to crayon or drip an amount of blue or green wax onto the skis first. Then, before ironing, sprinkle cold powder over the glide zone. Iron the glide wax and cold powder together. See video below for reference. Be sure to brush out skis thoroughly!

No MNC on Tuesday, 1/11

Due to cold temps forecast, there will be no skiing at the Range on Tuesday, January 11th.

EABC and MNC have called-off their training for the day, and the trails will not be open.

The good news: snowmaking has continued, and it is likely that Sprint, Pit, and Airplane loops will all be open by Thursday for some expanded ski terrain on the lighted loops.

Calling Masters racers!

It’s race season for Master skiers!  All levels and abilities can participate in these events.  For some, the goal can be just to finish the course with a smile on your face. For others, the goal could be a new course PR.  Either way, come join the fun of participation.
We send out weekly race updates for the upcoming weekend’s events.  If you have not received the MNC Racing Masters emails over the past 2 weeks, and would like to be on the list to receive them, please email Karen to be put on the list  kalence@comcast.net

MNC Masters 12/28 and 12/30

The good news: The Range has pushed out the 1km on Sprint Loop, so we will have a dedicated loop of great conditions and grooming.
The bad news: The other trails are either melted-out or too icy to ski safely, so they are v-boarding those off with no skiing allowed.
The limited terrain, combined with many coaches out for the holidays, means we are shifting to skate (for simplicity) and to open ski (for beginner groups) with pre-written intensity plans (for advanced groups).
The Masters Training Doc has links to some intensity plans and ideas for this week.
Please be aware that the snowmaking loop is narrow in points, and we will have enough skiers out there to make stopping and bunching-up a bit of a hazard. Let’s try to limit gathering and stopping to open field areas whenever possible.
Coaches will be floating around to answer questions, offer training advice, and technique help. The main field area, which is grass in the summer (not paved) should still have some good coverage for beginner skiers to ski on!
Please remember to check in at the gate from the “USBA list” when you enter the base. As always, thank you for being patient and flexible with ski locations, training structure, and snow conditions.

MNC Masters cancelled Thurs 12/23

Due to poor conditions at the Range, we have been informed that the trails will NOT be open to civilians this evening. It looks like our Masters will be resuming next Tuesday at the earliest: thanks for your patience and happy holidays!
