Masters update 2/4

MNC Masters,

Due to the increasing temps and springlike rain, skiing at the Range has been closed indefinitely. For those interested and available, I will be leading some easy running with ski poles (classic or short bounding poles) and dryland technique practice at Williston Central School from 4-5pm tomorrow. We’ll meet at the skatepark lot, near the volleyball courts.

Do your snow dances!

Masters Training 2/2 – 2/4

Congrats to all Masters who raced in the Craftsbury Marathon! There were reports of great conditions and fast skiing. Let’s hope this warm weather passes quickly so we can pick up more snow…

This week we will skate on Tuesday and classic on Thursday.

There will be a wax clinic with Toko’s Dave Boucher (and Adam) Tuesday (2/2) from 4:45 to 6:00pm at the Range. Swing by to pick up some tips!

Tuesday 2/2: Skating. V1 weight shift while climbing and carrying momentum over hills

Thursday 2/4: Classic. Double-pole work and speeds, with other specific strength

For great video this week, check out the Swedish Wintersport Research Center! Yes, there is a research center devoted to skiing in Sweden…

Last week some Masters and I discussed herringbone. Here’s a clip on it!

Masters Training 1/26 – 1/28

Please read: MNC Carpool potential for Craftsbury Marathon this Saturday. Ben Gordesky is looking to arrange a carpool and can take one other member + skis…OR, if there are Masters with room to spare, contact Ben about setting something up! Phone: 802-355-3049

Congrats to all the MNC Masters who participated in both the White Mountain Classic in New Hampshire and the MNC Duathlon on Sunday!

This week we will skate ski on Tuesday and classic ski on Thursday. Conditions may be rainy on Tuesday but we will work around it and tough it out if necessary…shouldn’t be an issue after the fall/early winter we survived through!

Tuesday 1/26: Skating; body positioning and balance with agility and speeds.

Wednesday 1/27: Toko/MNC wax clinic at Skirack – prep and wax for the Craftsbury Marathon!

Thursday 1/28: Classic; transitions both into and out of uphills, pacing and short quick interval prep for marathon racing.

This week’s video worth watching…the women’s 4x5km relay from Nove Mesto (Czech Republic). A great day for USA!

Masters Training 1/19 – 1/21

Masters training will be skating this Tuesday and classic this Thursday. Snow expected Tuesday, and generally pretty cold temps…dress warm! We will have a wax clinic on Tuesday fro 6-6:45 led by Coach Adam and Dave from Toko. Masters can take part in the clinic (with some hands-on opportunities) or choose to ski during the clinic with the other coaches. Adam will be on-snow for the second half of practice. Bring both skate and classic skis if you’d like to actively participate in the clinic, though this is not required!

Tues 1/19: Skate skiing. V1 work, intervals, speed and agility. Wax clinic (for skate and classic) from 6-6:45. Bring any skis (skate or classic) you’d like to wax!

Thur 1/21: Classic skiing. Striding, specific strength and agility. Right now looking like a cold hardwax day; green or blue kick!

Here is a photo from Jen of a Masters Ski at Trapps this past weekend! Missing a few faces in the photo…reports were that it was snowing the whole time!
