Coaches clinic day

We got a pretty significant group of coaches together at Craftsbury yesterday. While the conditions were a bit icy and sugary, it was a sunny experience to go over some teaching fundamentals as well as just enjoying one of the few places in the state with skiable snow (thanks as always, Craftsbury).

What this little event helped remind me is just how many leaders and engaged coaches ready and willing to help grow our sport. We may not have our “own” venue for skiing, or our own building or headquarters, but we do have the more important element of great people!

As we wait for more consistent snow please keep an eye on the MNC website, the various group docs, and the Eblast newsletter to find out when/where/how we’ll be getting out and training!

Ava’s NNF Drive for 25 Page

This week marks the start of the Drive for 25, an annual fundraiser by the National Nordic Foundation. The NNF supports skiing for many athletes, coaches, and techs up to the World Cup level.

You can read more about the D25 here.

Each year, many athletes who have received support and will seek support from the NNF put together their own fundraising page. These funds are all pooled to NNF, but it’s fun to see athletes and groups take ownership to try and drive fundraising; it says a lot about the scope of this drive to be able to see the many people affected and willing to reach out to raise money.

Ava Thurston has set up just such a page, which you can view and donate to below!

Stonegrinding and parka embroidery

A good sign that winter is here: we have our batch of skis that got stoneground back from Caldwell Sport, and we have the completed embroidery on our parkas!

You can pay for either (or both) of these items at the link below.

Stonegrind/Parka Payment

Stoneground skis

Thanks to a large batch size, we got a discount on stonegrinding and the price comes out to $77 per pair. This is an awesome discount as retail pricing just went to $100 per grind!

On the payment form below, you can use the dropdown menu to select the number of pairs you got stoneground. The Juniors will be at Craftsbury this week for training camp, where skis should be available for pickup (assuming they fit alongside all the other Junior gear heading to camp!). You can contact coach Adam and arrange a pickup at Craftsbury this week, or arrange a pickup back in Jericho upon return from training camp.

Our lovely batch of skis

Parka embroidery

Back in the early fall, we put out a link to some Backcountry parkas the Juniors were interested in getting. We received a number of these jackets, and they are BACK from the embroidery shop and decked-out in MNC representation! They look great with the MNC shield logo on the chest, and the club’s logotype on the back.

Embroidery was $22 per jacket, which can also be paid at the link below. There is an option to select more than one jacket for families or siblings who may have purchased multiple!

Ski and Gear sale success

Thanks to everyone who helped to make the first-ever MNC Ski and Gear Sale a big success. Not just big…one of our biggest single fundraisers ever!

While raising money for the MNC Scholarship fund was a great endeavor, it was also great to see so many members of the community checking out our event and picking up skis and equipment for their season. We saw high school skiers, BKL families, new interested athletes of all ages, and familiar faces alike.

This event was really spearheaded by Jenn Carlson and Liz Hollenbach, with a ton of help from Eric Tremble in terms of spreadsheet formatting and item tracking. We used our new MNC credit/debit card reader for the first time, and through the whole process could intake tons of gear while also following it right through the sale line for tracking purposes.

We also set up our system for fitting and leasing seasonal equipment for young skiers, and had a big new record in the amount of gear rented out for the season. It’s awesome to know that more BKL skiers than ever will be able to get out on skis.

The final conclusion? Over $4,000 raised! We sold over 75 pairs of skis, and the sheer volume of “retro” MNC suits and jackets now spread out among the skiers of Chittenden County means you’re more likely than ever to spot some vintage Mansfield maple leaf logos and quirky-pattern pants and sleeves out there…

Anybody remember THESE suits? You may be seeing more of them on the trails this year, for better or worse..!

The Community Center in Jericho was a great spot to host this event, and we’re grateful for such a turnkey community resource. There have been talks about a spring/summer gear swap for all those other outdoor activities we participate in, and you can bet the dreams of an even bigger and better event for next fall are in the works.

The Juniors were good volunteers, but also certainly contributed to the event sales

Near the height of the hustle-and-bustle…

…and the end of the day. You could say a lot of things got sold!
