Welcome to the Catamount Community Forest

In the coming weeks, MNC Masters will be transitioning to our Summer training which includes a  Thursday evening running group that will meet at the Catamount Community Forest.  While wait for the trails to dry out, we wanted to make our members were aware of the big changes happening in Williston.

So in case you haven’t heard.

The town of Williston recently bought Catamount Outdoor Family Center for public use. Catamount Outdoor Family Center will still operate on the property, managing customer service,  programming and trail maintenance.

With this transition Pedestrian use (walking, running and snowshoeing) is now free when the trails are open and  mountain bike memberships have never been lower.  Also both the Tues Night Trail Series  and Wed Night Mountain Bike Series  have undergone rate reductions.

The trails are presently closed to traffic and are drying out. They hope to re-open at the end of April, weather permitting.

Below is a clip from NBC News, which covered the details of the transaction last week.

Biathlon National Championships

Up at the Range this past weekend was 3 days of intense biathlon racing. The events included the whole US Biathlon Team (including recent World Cup medalist Claire Egan) and the top biathletes in the country of all ages.

MNC was well-represented with racers in events from BKL to Juniors and Masters. Club racers included Tim, Marika, Taylor, Kate, Carl, Virginia, Brady, Christine, coach Peter, among others!

Many of our club members could also be seen out cheering and volunteering. Thanks!

Celebrating the Season

It wasn’t quite the sunny, warm day that we’ve lucked-out with in the past for this event…but it was still a snowy and ski-filled day at our End Of Season party!

Some great skiing to be had

Nothing beats that new Craftsbury dining hall

Thanks to ALL the MNC members and friends for an excellent season! We accomplished a lot of great things, from our BKL skiers, Juniors, and Masters alike. We have some big plans for 2019/2020, but for the time being there is still SNOW to be found out there…we hope we see you on the trails.

Skiing with Kikkan!

Some MNC members had a great time getting to ski with gold medalist Kikkan Randall on Wednesday at Sleepy Hollow. Thanks to Skirack and Sleepy for putting on the event! Check out a news story below featuring some quick interview tidbits from Julia.

NE Relay Championship a Success!

NE Relay Championships 2019

The NE Relay Championship is always one of the highlights of our season and this third annual running did not disappoint.

The day started off with a pre-race snow squall, putting the wax techs on hold and early classic legs skiers pondering their fate.  Fortunately closer to race time, conditions stabilized and the crack Craftsbury squad was able to re-groom the course. With new tracks set and the weather clear, it was a straightforward hardwax selection for the first leg Classic leg skiers.

At the gun, 47 teams from nine clubs competed across seven age categories with MNC coming out as the overall NE Relay Club Champion.   Having fielded 17 total teams, MNC amassed multiple podium spots and almost twice the points of the next closest club in the overall competition.

A big reason for that performance was the amazing turn out of all our members, many of whom were first time racers. Hats off also go to the MNC ladies who swept the podiums in both women’s age divisions.

Also hat’s off to the many BKL skiers as well (Thanks Rosemary for the photo’s) and Taylor Carlson who ended up skiing 10k for the day.

But points and podiums aside, it was truly an exciting day to see MNC members of all ages and abilities enjoying a fun day with friends and teammates.

Finally, thanks go out to our many our volunteers and the staff at Crafstbury that helped pull of this somewhat complicated event.
