Rocky Mountain Camp is our annual altitude training camp, which takes place in Park City, UT each August. This is a challenging-but-rewarding camp in a really cool location, and a big capstone of our summer.
We started this camp in 2022 with a couple of key goals:
- Train at/experience altitude acclimation in a non-Championship setting to learn how we handle the transition, best practices for adjusting to the elevation, and what it all feels like.
- Experience a training camp/trip to a totally unique place, vastly different from New England, without breaking the bank.
- Celebrate summer by having some epic workouts and adventures in new places before heading back to school.
Some key sessions/experiences have included:
- Double pole/classic intervals up Emigration Canyon
- Hike up Mt Timpanogos
- Intervals or timetrials at the Soldier Hollow rollerski track (venue for 2025 Junior Nationals)
- Tracking SPo2 levels and HR each day to graph altitude effects
- Go-Kart racing or Top Golf in Salt Lake City
- Point-to-point run on the Wasatch Crest Trail
- Rollerski from Salt Lake City up to Brighton ski resort

Training details for 2024:
This camp is best suited to very experienced skiers. Advanced rollerski skills and safety are a must, no tonly for the rollerski track but also for navigating local bike paths and steeper canyon roads.
Each year we have done a 17-18 mile trail run on the Wasatch Crest, and a long hike (Mt Timpanogos). Both of these are completed at easy paces but are long in duration and mileage!
U16 athletes re permitted on this trip with prior coach discussion, though we don’t take it lightly. Because of the smaller group size and coach:athlete ratio, we do have better flexibility when it comes to modifying workouts to individual needs.
Additionally, this camp typically includes fewer intensity sessions than other camps given the altitude and focus.
Logistical details for 2024:
Our target cost for this camp is $999, with 10 participants. This is for a 10-day camp (arrive Aug 11, depart Aug 20).
Fewer than 10 participants would mean an increase in cost, although we may be able to tweak housing and rental vehicles accordingly if we have fewer athletes. Adam’s personal goal is to stay under $1000 on principle, to prove that an awesome 10-day camp in a unique and distant location can still be cost-effective and as accessible as possible!
This cost does not include airfare, but travelling on similar itineraries is ideal. A common option for athletes in the past has been to travel on the Delta flight that departs Logan daily at 6:35 and 10:35AM, arriving in SLC mid-morning/early afternoon. Arriving into SLC by 4pm on the 11th is the best plan of action. Flights from/to Burlington are also available, though some connections are necessary.
Coach Sara and Coach Adam will be arriving very early in the morning on the 11th, to ensure that we can be on the ground in anticipation of all athlete arrivals. If you book flight data, please send a note to Adam with your details so we can compile a group list for tracking!
For 2024 we will be staying in two adjacent condos at the base of Canyons ski area, just down the bike path from downtown Park City. Coach Sara will be in one house, and Coach Adam in the other.
Trip deposit/payment
You can find a signup form for the camp below. At this point in time a $100 deposit (non-refundable) is the only payment option, as final cost will depend on number of athletes and on-the-ground expenses.
