BKL Race Calendar & BKL Festival

Get ready to race BKLers!  There are a number of great races coming up including our club RANGE RAMBLE on Jan. 20 (tentative date right now). All races get posted on the MNC Events Calendar (that’s where you can find info on them too), but below is a short list I put together so you can see what is coming.

The 2018 NEBKL Festival Registration is now LIVE on skiers! This is a kid’s festival on skis! There will be relay races and an afternoon sprint on Saturday and an individual classic race on Sunday. There will be lots of fun non-racing things to do as well, including a parade, orienteering, Snowdance Celebration, Snow Sculptures, Tandem Skiing, Face Painting, Ski Biathlon, the Eighth Grade graduation and of course, the lollipop race.  Saturday night dinner buffet tickets are available for purchase, and Festival hats, headbands, and buffs are for sale too. Lot’s of pictures from last year’s festival feature a number of MNC skiers too! Check it out: https://www.skireg.com/new-england-bill-koch-league-festival0

BKL Wax Recommendation for Stowe Nordic Cross-cut

Glide Wax on Tips and Tails:  Toko LF or NF Blue or Swix LF or CH 4.  These are cold, brittle waxes that have to be scraped while still warm. Iron in, scrape after it gets hard, let cool completely, then brush.

Kick Zone: Scrape all old kick wax off & clean with base cleaner.  Lightly sand your kick zone with 150/200 grit sandpaper. Then rub on some Toko Base Green or other binder and iron it in. When it is very cool, rub on 2-3 layers of Toko X-treme cold or Swix Special Green (if you know your skis are on the stiffer side, go with more layers).

At the race site:  Rosemary, Adam, Coach Rick and others will be doing the 10k race and can help you wax when finished. If you kick waxed at home as suggested above, try out your skis first. If they’re not working correctly, find the MNC wax benches (probably right out front) and add a couple of layers. We can help you after we finish racing or you can do it yourself. We will leave the wax of the day out on the benches.

BKL Racers: Do the Stowe Nordic Cross-cut Race!

Set your sights on the Stowe Nordic Classic on January 7!  There is a 2km mass start BKL Race.  Everyone is welcomed to race. For some it will be a sprint, for others, the perfect distance race. Check out our calendar listing and register on Ski Reg. Race starts at noon so arrive at 10:30 to get your skis waxed up. Email Coach Rosemary (sheacobb19@gmail.com) if you plan to go and look for us where the wax benches are set up.
