J2 / EHS Championship Qualifier Info

Hot of the press from Erin Mallory:

Hi VT Coaches,
A few notes on the Qualifier:
1. We need a timer– Judy said there is a potential that the rowing athletes could time for us, but I wanted to get your thoughts on that, and we still may need a point person for results.
2. Here is the link to SkiReg:  http://www.skireg.com/vermontehscu16qualifier
3. Volunteers Needed:  Here is the link to the Volunteering sign up sheet.  If every team provides 3-4 volunteers it would be greatly appreciated.  I have separated out the boys and girls races this year so that volunteers can watch their own son or daughter ski.
4. VT Elite Team website for future information and updates as the race gets closer:  vteliteteam.weebly.com
5. VT Rules regarding Eastern High School Qualifier:
The qualifier will take place on Feb 22nd at Craftsbury with a 3-3.5k Classic and a 3-3.5km Skate race.  The top 20 athletes from the combined results qualify for the Eastern High School Championship.  The last four spots will be fill based on skiers who registered for the qualifier and posted the top times in the combined results from the individual races at the VT State Meet.
New this year: Individuals must register for the qualifier in order to be considered for a discretionary spot or to qualify at the VT High School State Meet.
To be granted a discretionary spot, the athlete must be ranked as one of the top 5 Vermonters on the NENSA points list for Juniors.  However the discretionary committee has the option to use comparative results to choose discretionary athletes.    There needs to be a letter or e-mail from the coach at least a day prior to the competition to apply for a discretionary spot.
In regards to the J2, they will be picking 22 skiers instead of 20 this year and the last two will be non scoring, but still race at the weekend.  For discretionary spots for J2’s they need to be one of the top 5 Vermonters on the J2 points list.
Happy Snow Day!
Erin

MNC Athletes At Eastern High School Championships

Eastern High School Championships — a three-day event each March — are taking place at Mountain Top Resort in Rutland, VT. Events include a 5km skate race (yesterday), 7.5km classic and a 1km sprint (today) and mixed relays tomorrow. Athletes compete for the state in which they attend high school and awards go to individuals as well as a team title to the state with the most points at the end of the weekend.

Results for all events are available at the BART Timing Website.

Club athletes Autumn Eastman was the top Vermont finisher in the 3rd overall, behind 2 girls that each had podium finishes last week at Junior Nationals. Cally Braun – another MNC/CVU skier – finished 26th, and Molly Larson (MNC / MMU) also skied to an excellent top-30 result in a field of approximately 100 of the best skiers from NY, VT, MA, NH and ME. It looks like 11 of the girls in the field were also members of the New England Junior National Team, which means it is a really competitive event! Amy Bruce (MNC/MMU) was the next finisher in 46th followed closely by her teammate Abby Grab (MNC/MMU). Chloe Lemmel-Hay (MNC/Essex) also skied strong to finishe 65th on the day.

On the boys’ side, Charlie Maitland (MNC/CVU) was 9th overall and one of the top finishers from Vermont. Forrest Hamilton (MNC) finished 22nd,  Ethan John (MNC/Essex) was 31st, Ethan Thibault (Colchester/MNC) was 78th in a field of 106 athletes. Parker Francis (MNC) had an excellent performance and skated to 40th place results and was only 30-seconds outside the top-20 overall!!

Congrats on a great start for Team Vermont with a strong lead in the Team Event after day 1!
